                                      TDD Calls Course


Course Purpose

The purpose of this interactive workshop is to ensure that the 9‐1‐1 Officer is completely aware of the American Disabilities Act as it relates to public
safety communications. The goal is to make the student familiar with the types of TDD units, how they are used, and appropriate grammar and terminology when  communicating with through these devices to a person who is either  hearing or speech impaired. 
 

Student Performance Objectives

Upon completion of the course, the communications officer should be able to:
  • Understand the Americans with Disabilities Act as it relates to 9-1-1
  • Demonstrate the ability to use of American Sign Language (ASL) on a TDD
  • Demonstrate the ability to detect TDD calls
