Crisis Call Handling
Course Purpose
The purpose of this course is to provide an
advanced-level in-service training for the 9-1-1 Officer for a variety of
emergency (life-threatening) calls.
Student Performance Objectives
At the end of this course, the student will be able to
demonstrate the ability to handle a variety of life-threatening calls in
progress including:

Abduction
·
Domestic Violence
·
Assault
·
Suicide
·
HAZMAT
Case Studies
Several actual case studies have been provided as learning examples of
what can go wrong if the call is improperly handled. It is not intended to
disparage the actual call-taker or agency where the call actually occurred.
NOTICE:
Although emergency medical calls are also crisis calls, emergency medical
dispatching (EMD) is recognized by authorities as an advanced medical
training course and requires a specialized training and certification course
and will not be covered in this course.
Certificate Eligibility
All participants will be required to actively
participate in case study critiques and pre-scripted role play scenarios to
be eligible for a certificate of completion.
Course Format
· An intensive, interactive workshop
· Present case studies
· Critique the call
· Role play the call
NOTE: Although it is not required, it is recommended that the participant have
completed a formal basic 9-1-1 program and an on-the-job program
