EMD Officer Recertification
Individuals who have become certified through NECI or any other EMD certification program recognized by the agency medical control (EMS Physician) can become recertified through NECI.
To become EMD Officer re-certified through NECI, all individuals must meet the following requirements:
• Current EMD Officer (or equivalent) certification through any 24-hour EMD course recognized by the EMS Physician with medical control over the agency where the EMD Officer works.
• Meet all state or local requirements.
• 12 months minimum of full-time or part-time experience as an EMD Officer.
• 12 hours minimum of EMD-related in-service training within the past twelve months.
• Role-play (with a certified public safety instructor, preferable an EMD Instructor) 16 EMD chief complaint medical protocols used by the EMD agency where the EMD is currently employed. In addition to the 16 chief complaint medical protocol cards, the EMD re-certification candidate must role-play three a minimum of three scripted EMD medical protocol cards:
o One CPR
o One airway obstruction
o One childbirth
• Successfully pass the EMD "closed-book" final written examination provided by NECI.
Upon receipt of a complete application with a purchase order or credit card number, NECI will forward the NECI EMD National Certification Course and recertification instructions on a CD.
